München, Dachau en Salzburg: vakantie 2014

Emma and me like to travel a lot. Especially she likes Germany, and I like to go to new places. So it became München since it was also close to the Alps.

We’ve seen a lot of stuff and we experienced a lot of diversity. I mean, we stayed at a 4 star hotel in a shady neighbourhood, and used Couchsurfing to crash at an awesome guy’s place. We saw the horrific Dachau, and cheered at the finals of the World Cup. Saw nature in the Alps, and enjoyed the exciting city center of München. Here’s some pics, but be sure to check out the whole gallery for your enjoyment.

Lightning in Arnhem; an infrared love story.

Last night, I couldn’t sleep. Then it started to rumble in the sky; lightning.

I left my 5D2 at work so I was left with my 11 year old camera, the EOS 10D, modified IR camera. With a fisheye lens. Usually not your typical combination for some storm/lightning photography. So what was the result?

This photo is actually 4 pics merged together, blended in. Total shuttertime: 80 seconds.

A happy 2014 from Roma / Rome!

First of all, I’d like to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2014! It’s been a while since I posted something, and I actually still have to post some America photo’s.

Anyway, my girlfriend and me went to Rome for New Years Eve. I fixed my website and uploaded the gallery. Since it was a LOT of photo’s, I decided to devote a page to it. Enjoy!

Catacombes de Paris

Last week My gf and I were in Paris, and what a trip that was. We’ve seen the most beautiful people, tasted the finest wines and cheeses. Met many interesting people, talked to artists, enjoyed the many romantic views and we’ve visited the well known touristic spots.

Of course we’ve visited the Champs Elysee, seen the Arc du Triomf, Basilique du Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, Eiffel tower, Notre Dame and many more famous places. But we’ve also visited a more infamous place: the Catacombes de Paris.

Underneath the romantic city with hints to a long gone past, there is a 290 km long network of tunnels. Initially these were made to mine chalk. However, from 1786 till the 19th century, these tunnels were used to store the bones of about 6 million French people. Nowadays you can visit the final resting place of these poor souls. Here are some of the pics I’ve taken.

Some happy stuff soon, no worries.

Greece 3/7

And we continue with photo’s from Greece!

Incredibly busy road, this photo is untouched, all visual effects done on the camera. Gotta love my 5DMII

A low quality, bad, overcontrasted and underlighted photo. Still I like it, good memories, good story.

Emma intergrating in Greec culture. Seriously DO support Greece because those warriors over there… you don’t want them to invade the rest of Europe!

Our awesome couchsurfing-host brought us to the opening of a salsa-club. We got a very nice demonstration of Salsa dancing. Sexy!

Wasn’t aware communism was still so active in countries. This was an eye-opener for me.

This was the place where we stayed. This was STEEP!

“Walking on a Sunday morning”.

Hi guys! Had a couchsurfing guest at my place last night. Was brief, but fun. In the morning I brought her to the center of Arnhem where she had to do an English test. Anyway, on my way back I took some pics.

Most of them are quite in the same style I’ve been working for a while. Of course there will be people saying they’re photoshopped… I just call it processing.

Till next post!

A new lifestyle.

A new house, a completely new location, far away from friends and family. Yes it’s something totally different.

Everything is new. From transport, food, the house to clothes and times I go to bed. To make the contrast even bigger, things got really cold after 2-3 weeks of living here. So cold that we actually got snow, nice! Except if you have to use your bicycle on a daily basis.

Either way, here some pics from my new “situation”.

This is my current bed. I actually finished putting it together yesterday!

Me after I just came home.

In the cold fields out there, clothes like these aren’t a luxery. I often cycle around 10-11pm through snowy blizzards. So a regular t-shirt and a cap won’t do.

Another one!

This is a famous building next to trainstation Wehl. It has been abandonned for a while now. Can you tell?

And here two other pics I took last friday when I went to Amsterdam. Taken at Utrecht CS after my train had a 30 minute delay.

That’s all for now, hope you enjoy them!

From Emmerich, with love.

Oaky it’s been a while but life has been crazy! I moved to Emmerich, I STILL don’t have internet there and I’ve been busy at work as well. Working 40 hours a week is quite a lot, especially if you do a lot of crunchtiming.

Photography still has it’s place in my daily routines and I occaisionly still take pictures. Especially in the weekends of course. So here are some very recent pictures all taken around my new house. Enjoy!

My Job

Okay guys, I think everyone has noticed I’ve been away for a while. I have a job. Yes, I have a job. It’s true.

Anyway took my cam to work. And I do respect the no-inside-photography-rules, so I took it outside. Here’s some pictures from my “workspace”!

Did I edit them: Yes.

Do I care about people who hate editing: No.

Why?

Simple. Photography is an interpretation of a mixture between life, how one sees it mixed with his or her feelings at that time. So there you have it. Limiting yourself within a creative branch is like creating engines to go slower. Pointless and not as much as FUN!

Very random stuff actually.

Bought some thick paper to create a new product studio. So far so good. I also got a HUGE black sheet so that will be fun to play with. In the meanwhile: test shots and some skateboarding action from Arnhem where I had a job interview..

And now the promised skateboarding stuff…

Ghent, Belgium.

It already has been a week, but a good memory anyway. Me and a friend went to Ghent to have a Maxforums gathering. What’s that? Well, some 3D/photography guys in Ghent drinking and talking geek stuff! Well.. we talked a lot about design, the current economy, more design, visual stuff, infinity (don’t ask.. please don’t) and we indeed had drinks. I brought my cam, 2 lenses and had lots of fun!

Means something along the lines of “love please.”

Martini bubles, I loved them!

The Cat. What a beauty!

The roof during our lunch the second day.

A very funky and happy colored bar!

Also 3D visual designers can look very ghetto.

Next stop, more drinks.

Some stairs at the place where we stayed.

Nd more…

The living room, well, small part of it. Looks great!!!

That’s all for now.

Helmet and a path.

Weird title aye? Well… kinda fit’s the pictures. Very experimental.

The first is a small path next to my house.

I simply LOVE the colors, really peaceful.

Now my fisheye lens. Oops I spoilt it. Why? Well it reminds me of a helmet. But in fact it’s my lens upside down.. Nevermind.. here it is…

Darth-Vader-ish aye?

Thats it for now, If you have any comments please leave them here. Always appreciated!!

Canon 50mm 1.4 USM lens!

As the title already indicates, I got a new lens. And it’s a beauty! The Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. Why is this one so special? The 24-105 covers a wide range and 50mm is in that range… Well the aperture is really nice.

Explanation
The lower the aperture number, the more extreme the Depth of field (DOF) effect is. What is in focus will always be sharp, but what’s out of focus will be blurry. The lower the aperture number, the blurrier out of focus objects are.

Anyway… Back to the actual photo’s. Here are some test shots I made with this lens:

Picture of my desk… kind of messy, 2 camera’s, phone and coffee.

A car in our street. I edited the numberplate for privacyreasons. It looks quite miniature I’d say..

Small shed in the garden…

Don’t eat them! 😛

Painted this one myself…

Attempt at product-photography..

The cat singing.

How cute… Yes it’s real btw.

Water tower in Ijmuiden.

The harbour in Ijmuiden, I ate fish with my girl somewhere there…

And at the beach.

That’s it for now! Bye-bye, and leave a comment!

Amsterdam + Spider

Allright quick post from the last few days. Starting with 3 pictures from my trip to Amsterdam. I’ve met up with a friend who I’ve known over internet for quite a while… we met, had lunch, walked through Amsterdam and had a great time. This is what I had for lunch:

After that I made this picture of a building close to Waterloo Market:

And on my way back to Weesp I took this picture while waiting for the train…

And this morning I saw a spider hanging around on a window, so here’s Spidey:

He started being mysterious…..

Then I fully exposed him:

And then he started doing karate:

I filmed this spider too, will post the movie later-on because it’s kinda cool!

See ya, till next post!

Summer update!

Hey there!

Small update, it’s getting hotter so let’s first announce…. summertime!

Soo much is on the planning. One of them is a trip to SWEDEN per BIKE! Yes people I will go on my recumbent bike:

This one is actually scaled, for the larger version click HERE.

Fair enough, I had to buy bags for it so for the rear-bag I went to Tilburg with my good friend Chantal. Here some travel pictures:

I went from Almere to Hoofddorp where me and Chantal would meet up. But thanks to my lovely Dingoo A320 I didn’t hear the train stopping, or noticed anything of Hoofddorp so instead I had to go out of the train at Nieuw-Vennep and go back to Hoofddorp. Thing is, I was raised in Nieuw-Vennep so I took this picture where I noticed I was in complete shadow while the rest looked really sunny. Nice.

Then, I met up with Chantal and we went to Den Bosch station. There we waited for the next train and I took these two pictures:

And outside the station was this waterfall:

After that we went to Tilburg, had dinner at a Chinese restaurant and bought the bags from some die-hard recumbent-bike fans. They where really nice so we sticked there till quite late.

During our walk back to the station we met some skaterguys who liked to perform in front (and above) my camera:

Of course taken with the 15mm Sigma Fisheye lens on my Canon 5DMKII haha. Don’t I love google tags?

After that we had to wait at Tilburg train station for about 40 minutes but it gave me plenty of time to tease Chantal and make this people (I’m such a multitasker):

And that’s it for now. The day after I bought the side-bags for my bike, will take some pictures soon. Take care people!
