Studio photography
It’s been a while since I used a studio setup, so I thought to get some paper sheets out again.
Used my large roof window for a nice sunny toplight, and added another light to the scene for the pics with a black background. I made thsese float using fishingwire. Anyway, enjoy!
Small disclaimer: The guns are all toyguns, I do not own any fire-arm.
There are a lot of bluetooth mobile speakersystems out there, but which one to go for? I’ve had Harman kardon’s Bluetooth speakers before, but had to bring ‘m back. Then I saw Logitech’s UE Boom…
They look good, Logitech is a well known brand and after googling a bit, I saw they’re getting very decent reviews. So I got on my bike, raced to the Mediamarkt and got ‘m. My first impressions?
The sound is the most important aspect of course. I was impressed. The bass is nice, not as booming as perhaps some others (which cost roughly over $300…) but it’s noticeable and nice. All other tones are very fine, especially for the price, even at loud volume. Speaking of which, the volume is great. If you have a closed space with 70-100 people, this could be the music-provider of the evening.
It’s also working very well for outside use. I was amazed how well it worked in an open field. So Sound-wise, it’s all good here.
The speaker is supposed to be truly 360 degrees of sound magic. However, if you rotate it you will hear some differences. Not 100% true 360 degree sound, but it comes easily close enough. It’s omnidirectional for sure.
Do you have two of these? Or does a friend of yours have one too? Then you can pair ‘m for a louder surround feeling. Nice!
Well, as you can see, it looks nice. It feels very solid and looks great. The huge + and – are actually volume controls which work just as expected, after pushing the soft rubber it has a nice click for confirmation.
There’s also a small C-ring at the other side, so you could hang it upside down. Excellent idea.
Also, it’s water resistant. Now don’t go diving with it, but it should resist a couple of splashes. Good stuff.
Last but not least, there are a LOT of designs out there with various colors. They all look stunning and I had a serious difficult time choosing the one I wanted.
So far I’ve been using it all day on one single charge. I’m not sure about the hours, but I guess at 60% volume you can use it at least 10 hours or more. Google other reviews for this. However, so far I just charged it because I could, not because I should’ve.
The sound is better than expected. The speaker isn’t cheap, but it’s totally worth it. It feels very solid and can easily compete with much more expensive models.

So he came over to inspect my studio, of course he had to become the subject of my next creative session, fun times.
Wanneer je fanatiek met fotografie bezig bent is het geweldig als je de volgende stap kan zetten; een eigen fotostudio. Maar als je de studio hebt krijg je er naast iets geweldigs ook heel wat vragen bij. Hoe ga je zorgen voor bekendheid? Wat ga je eigenlijk fotograferen? Hoeveel vraag je voor een fotoshoot? Wat kan je naast fotoshoots nog meer doen? Hoogste tijd voor een brainstormsessie.
Samen met Camilla en Emma hebben we gisteren een geweldige dag gehad. We hebben vooral gedacht over creatieve en gezellige sessies die we in de studio kunnen hebben. We hebben alle drie heel veel ideeën opgeschreven welke zo out of the box konden zijn als we konden verzinnen. Ik weet niet zeker of de jacuzzi er ooit komt, maar het idee staat op papier. Zo ook de aanwezigheid van bordspelletjes, radiografisch bestuurbare wagentjes ter ontspanning tussen de shoots door en een groot stuk leeg papier waar elke bezoeker iets met stift op kan schrijven. Dit is iets wat ik ook bij veel couchsurfers heb gezien, en dat is echt onwijs leuk.
Het meest concrete plan is een kleine receptie welke ik aanstaande vrijdag wil houden. Een gezellige groep couchsurfers uit de omgeving (en wellicht die tijdelijk in Arnhem verblijven) komen gezellig langs. Terwijl we ons allemaal klaar maken om vrijdag-avond uit te gaan en zo het weekend te beginnen, hebben we een drankje en maken we mooie foto’s. Gezelligheid en creativiteit, een perfecte combinatie.
Verder zijn er heel veel concepten, steekwoorden en ideeën. Het is vooral nu belangrijk om alles wat ik écht in de studio moet hebben, er te krijgen. Dus nog een bureau/werktafel, de cadeau-gekregen-spiegel en een aantal mooie foto’s op canvas geprint.
We zouden rond 6u naar huis gaan. Echter, 9 uur zaten we er nog en Emma lag zelfs al te slapen in de studio. En tóch hebben we het idee dat we nog heel veel meer te bespreken en bedenken hebben. Snel dus een vervolgsessie, met nog meer goede ideeën!

De studio begint steeds meer de vorm te krijgen zoals we voor ogen hebben. En dat is maar goed ook, want we willen ons vooral bezig houden met mooie foto’s maken.
Vorige week hebben we de zithoek veel meer vorm gegeven. Hier kan nu relaxed gezeten worden met een drankje, magazines en gezelligheid. Heel belangrijk om een shoot voor/na te bespreken of om tijdens fotoshoots even op adem te komen. Ook is het een perfecte hoek om inspiratie op te doen uit alle boeken en magazines.
De dag er na hebben we de zithoek meteen even uitgetest met Isaa en Esther, die ook model hebben gestaan. Zie hier de foto’s van die dag, en de zithoek.
Bijna weekend, en dat is mooi. Stfoto heeft namelijk een hele drukke week achter de rug. En de resultaten? Die delen we dan ook graag.
A while ago I tried some product-photography and I really liked it. So I picked it up again over the weekend and had some satisfying results. Still not where I want to be, but it’ll come in time.
Trying out a new studio setup with a black background and an improvised softbox. So far I’m quite happy with it but I’ve got lot’s to learn… luckily!
Heikki’s helmet when he still raced for ING Renault F1. I got this helmet from Isabelle Connor after an assignment I did for her. That made me so proud!

A bit edited to my likings, but probably less than how much you’d suspect… the light setup, less contrast and the white balance already does a lot.

Bought some thick paper to create a new product studio. So far so good. I also got a HUGE black sheet so that will be fun to play with. In the meanwhile: test shots and some skateboarding action from Arnhem where I had a job interview..

Used an external flash with a wireless remote (that cost me like nothing from our friends at dealextreme…)
Still a great cam. Ah I had to test my remote cord I just had in from dealextreme…
My final schoolproject is gadgettribe.tv as some might know. I created that webpage and the video with my 5DMKII.
Anyway today I’ve been busy working on the filmstudio that we’re going to use in the new episodes of Gadgettribe.TV.
This is the black board that’s going to stand in front of the anchorman.. It’s all made of wood!
ALSO some other news… bought a new lens!!
Here you can see the Canon 28-300mm IS USM L lens… wich is attached at the Canon 1D MKII wich I also have.
So far: it’s GREAT!!
First I’d like to start saying: All a merry X-mas and a happy 2010 with lot’s of work, joy happiness, adventures and health.

Yesterday Chantal, a friend of mine, came to visit me since she’s been to Australia for quite a while. And well just like some other friends she knew I needed a new wallet. Refusing to buy a new one since I really liked my old one, she bought me one. I have to say it’s bigger, holds more space and looks way more stylished and quite a bit more mature. Ah well…
One thing I liked more about the old one, is that in order to fit my money in I had to fold it and thus making it look I had twice the amount of money. Ah well… Let’s earn more money so I get that same feeling, hm?
Lights, background, music, the camera’s, lenses but most important: some friends over.
Yeah we had a great day to test out the studio. We had a lot of fun and made some fun pictures, here they are!

Been a while since I updated the old wp.stfoto.nl. Since it was running an older version of wordpress I wanted to update it. Also I renewed the template (while we’re at it) and replaced the old stfoto.nl with the new blog instead of a simple gallery.

The Studio.
I bought studio stuff! Bought two studioflashlights (lumen8 400W/s version) and today my background support + 2 backgrounds arrived. So here are some test results with a big thanks to Joost for posing! Thanks man!
