Een week lang mocht ik de Tamron 45mm 1.8 eens flink uitproberen. 45mm prime lenzen zie je niet veel, maar de lens is op meerdere vlakken heel uniek. Zo schiet hij macrofoto’s én heeft hij optische stabilisatie. En dat voor een 1.8 lichtsterke lens!
De lens heb ik een week lang getest op de Canon 5DSr. Deze camera schiet op 51mp en dankzij het low-pass cancelation filter wordt élk detail vastgelegd. Mijn review is geen laboratoriumtest, maar écht een gebruikersreview.
Nette doos, direct wat boekjes, lens daaronder stevig en secuur verpakt. Ook de zonnekap is veilig ingepakt. Lens eruit, voelt heel degelijk aan. Mooie afwerking ook. Focus gaat super smooth. Afwerking van het materiaal en de belettering zijn super strak. Zonnekap draait secuur op de lens en geeft een bevestigende klik. Ook de knopjes op de lens werken perfect. Wanneer je de autofocus of stabilisatie aan of uit zet geeft dit ook weer een fijne klik. Hoewel het super eenvoudig is om deze knopjes te verschuiven heb ik niet het idee dat dit per ongeluk zal gaan. Met andere lenzen heb ik weleens dat in mijn fototas de AF uitgezet wordt. Heel frustrerend als je na een aantal goede foto’s erachter komt dat de focus op handmatig stond. Dat zal met deze lens niet gebeuren.
Veel fotografen gebruiken de 50 1.8 voor portretfotografie. Deze lenzen zijn over het algemeen snel, scherp en creëren een mooi bokeh. Tamron’s 45mm wijkt daar dus iets van af en tijdens het fotograferen is dat merkbaar. Al is het slechts 5mm verschil, je hebt nét even wat meer beeld. Nét wat meer om later mee te spelen en net wat meer overzicht. Persoonlijk vond ik dit erg fijn zowel bij portret evenals landschap.
Er staan op het internet al een aantal reviews die heel gedetailleerd ingaan op de prestaties van deze lens, dus ik hou me vooral bij mijn bevindingen als een gebruiker.
De scherpte is meer dan goed te noemen van deze lens. Dat mag je van een prime uit dit segment ook wel verwachten. Ook in de randjes van de foto is alles in focus goed scherp. En dat getest op 51MP!
Wanneer je naar lenzen kijkt met een diafragma kleiner dan 3.0 dan kun je wel aardig wat chromatic abberation verwachten. De Tamron 45mm 1.8 is daar geen uitzondering op, maar er is prima mee te werken. Ga je naar wat hogere diafragmawaarden heb je er al snel geen last meer van. En schiet je wel vol open op 1.8 dan is de chromatic abberation goed weg te werken in bijvoorbeeld Lightroom, DxO of Photoshop.
Hier is de chromatic abberation weggewerkt in Photoshop. Als we 100% vergroten zien we het zó voor en na:
Maar gaan we bijvoorbeeld naar F/9 dan is zonder bewerking er amper chromatic abberation zichtbaar.
Een van de hoofdredenen om voor een 1.8 lens te gaan is uiteraard de bokeh. Ofwel, de onscherpte van hetgeen out of focus is. Deze is echt super zacht bij deze Tamron lens. Zowel op macro als bij portret wordt de achtergrond heel fijn wazig.
Ook vrij uniek aan deze lens is de mogelijkheid om héél dichtbij te fotograferen. En dat biedt onwijs veel leuke mogelijkheden. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan prachtige details tijdens een bruiloft, of shots van bloemen en de natuur. De macro-modus is snel en accuraat. Zonder enige frustratie kon ik zonder door de zoeker te kijken toch een aantal bloempjes er goed op krijgen. Wanneer je van zó dichtbij fotografeert en je nog digitaal kan uitvergroten kun je heel veel detail verwachten.
Met het diafragma van 1.8 kun je bij weinig licht nog prima foto’s maken. Zelfs vanuit de hand en zonder flitser was dit eigenlijk geen enkel probleem. Ook is fotograferen met een sluitertijd van 1/30e uit het losse handje prima te doen, zonder bewegings-onscherpte te krijgen. Wil je portretten schieten bij feestjes, ’s avonds? Dan is dit absoluut een ideale lens. Zéker in combinatie met de stabilisatie.
De Tamron 45mm 1.8 is de enige 45mm prime lens met beeldstabilisatie. Normaliter heb je dit vooral nodig in zoom-lenzen. Hoe verder je inzoomed, des te meer je ook bewegingsonscherpte vergroot. Daarnaast zijn dit vaak donkerdere lenzen.
Om een ontzettend lichtsterk objectief als deze tóch beeldstabilisatie te geven maakt deze lens naast uniek ook alleen maar nóg geschikter voor het donker.
De stabilisatie zelf hoor je nauwelijks. Dit is bij andere merken wel anders. Soms twijfelde ik zelfs of hij aan stond, maar als je dan goed luisterd dan is hij druk aan het werk.
Door de lens zie je niet veel van de stabilisatie, maar dat is niet gek. Op 45mm zijn ook je bewegingen behoorlijk “uitgezoomed” en dus niet snel merkbaar. Wanneer je stabilisatie op 200mm probeert zie je het effect pas een beetje.
Echter, bekijk je na een dag schieten je foto’s dan zie je wel degelijk veel verschil. Een aantal foto’s die ik normaal nooit uit het losse handje had kunnen schieten waren ineens prima scherp.
Deze foto is gemaakt met een sluitertijd van 1/6e, zonder statief. F/10 en ISO van 400.
Dezelfde foto heb ik tweemaal gemaakt, maar dan mét en zonder stabilisatie aan. De foto zegt genoeg.
Ik ben toch echt wel heel positief verrast hoe goed de stabilisatie werkt. Het lukte me zelfs met een sluitertijd van 1/3e om hele scherpe foto’s te krijgen.
In het weekje dat ik de lens gehad heb, ben ik hem vooral gaan gebruiken. Ik heb de lens meegenomen naar een airsoft-evenement waar ik na het evenement zelf een aantal deelnemers mee het bos in heb genomen. Hier heb ik een aantal portretfoto’s geschoten welke ik in een jare 50 style wou krijgen. De lens werkte hier top mee, ondanks dat het steeds donkerder werd. Vooral in het bos was er al snel nog maar amper licht.

Ook op kantoor heb ik de lens getest. Samen met een collega zijn we naar buiten gegaan om een aantal portretfoto’s te maken. De zon stond er vol op, en er was overal reflectie. Toch werkte de zonnekap prima mee en zijn de foto’s scherp en helder geworden. Het viel me al snel op dat de foto’s zonder bewerking een professionele look gaven. 45mm is ook breed genoeg om iemand er van niet al te ver volledig op te krijgen.

Als laatste heb ik een fietstocht van zo’n 30km gemaakt. Omdat de lens niet al te groot was kon ik hem met camera en al gewoon in een klein fietstasje doen. Zo is hij constant bij de hand. Dus ook voor fietsers absoluut een aanrader. Tijdens dit tochtje was het vrij donker, bewolkt, regenachtig en ontzettend koud. Ondanks het trillen van mijn handen (zowel van de kou evenals het zware fietsen met fixe klimmetjes) waren alle foto’s scherp. Vooral de stabilisatie heeft hier ontzettend aan bijgedragen.

De Tamron 45mm F/1.8 Di VC USD is een bijzondere lens. 45mm geeft een fijne beeldhoek, de lens heeft een prachtige bokeh, is scherp, heeft een top-stabilisatie, is voor macro te gebruiken én is gunstig geprijsd. Zeker als je bedenkt dat soortgelijke lenzen geen stabilisatie hebben. De chromatic abberation is goed merkbaar, maar absoluut naderhand prima te corrigeren.

Dankzij de lichtsterkte en stabilisatie is het lastig een shot niet scherp te krijgen. Daarnaast zien de foto’s er zelfs op het schermpje van je camera prachtig en professioneel uit. Je ziet direct het verschil met normale digitale camera’s. Dit is echt een lens die het plezier in fotografie benadrukt. Tijdens het schieten met deze lens werd ik dan ook helemaal blij toen ik steeds de resultaten op mijn schermpje zag.
Kortom, een kwalitatief goede lens, die goed presteert zelfs onder lastige omstandigheden. Heb je nog geen portretlens of standaard reislens? Kijk dan niet verder.

Lucky for me, I live not far from the Dutch Veluwe. A large natural area with beautiful places. It’s not flat at all (like the rest of the Netherlands) and has amazing areas of meadow, sandfields and forrest. I had a small stroll and took these photos.
Had a small ride to he local docks today. Not many pics, but I’m experimenting with the style. Enjoy.

Yesterday, I went on a cycling trip with Camilla. We did a total of 50km and ended up getting home way later than expected…
I wanted to buy something and then go to two friends in Brummen. We both took our camera’s and shot quite some pics. Camilla brought a 18-55 and a 70-200 while I was stuck with just a 15mm fisheye. All of these were taken with my full-frame fisheye setup.
Can we get any closer?

Getting the hang out of IR photography, it’s getting cooler and cooler. Ah well enough talk, let the photo’s speak for themselves.

Played a bit around with my fisheye lens, stiched some pics toghether and gave it polar coordinates in Photoshop. It’s just a test but I post it anyway!
Okay fact, I’m not out of the game yet. Even a 2-3 minute submergion of my camera couldn’t stop me. On the bad side, I did lose my 28-135 USM IS lens. On the bright side, I could finally justify buying a new L lens so I went for the 23-105 and got it for a bargain! This guy was really friendly and gave it to me for a very very good price.. lucky me!
Still it was enough to allmost get me bankrupt lol.

Allright, expect a normal decent post soon but I just couldn’t resist… so here are some pictures from my last movienight!
Movienight you say? Yes, movienight.
My beloved parents (still have to make a picture, this tends to be quite hard…) actually allow it that I can have a MOVIENIGHT every 2 weeks. What does this mean?
Lot’s of foods (mostly home made pizza… and yes it’s HUGE), movies, drinks, lot’s of people and lot’s of laughter. The pizza is actually about a meter wide and you can decorate your own slice of the whole thing. Pretty cool aye?
Before I show the pictures (unless you skip this part..) I want to stress that these pictures are not technically perfect, they are not funny nor are they well spotted. They are friends. They are the basics to human existence. They are what make me. And they alone are a reason to live.
So here they are.. and yes a LOT of good friends are exluded… so yes… count me rich. 😉
ANYWAY let’s start with this guy Joost. He’s been a friend for more than 12 years now… or even 13… I can’t even remember. This guy is really cool. And eventhough we are totally different, we also share a lot of thoughts and humor that just no-one else will ever understand. Big ups for him haha!
And then Victor, yes what to tell. Difficult case… hehe. I went to London with this guy, met him at uni and he’s proven to be a weird-ass. Seriously he is. How-ever whatever he is, you can always count on a good party when he’s around. He’s one of the few who got verbed and got accepted at urbandictionary. OMG. I tried HARD, my friends know this, but even I didn’t succeed in getting verbed. Omg.

Then this guy Feraaz… I’ve actually finished the OVC college with this guy… we both did HAVO and stuff, was really cool. Now we’re still in touch, crashing parties and making any small station in the Netherlands unsafe.

And then Emma. I mean.. we’ve seen her before, her beautifull eyes.. And the ones who know her well also have seen her photography. I mean she still surprises me and eventhough she’s relatively new to photography I’m a bit jealous at how well she sees… funny things in life. Seriously she’s good. Her creative skills and my technical skills would outperform a LOT of design agencies. Trust me, yes. Okay… well… maybe.. sortof. Anyway… Emma.

Small update, it’s getting hotter so let’s first announce…. summertime!
Soo much is on the planning. One of them is a trip to SWEDEN per BIKE! Yes people I will go on my recumbent bike:

Fair enough, I had to buy bags for it so for the rear-bag I went to Tilburg with my good friend Chantal. Here some travel pictures:
I went from Almere to Hoofddorp where me and Chantal would meet up. But thanks to my lovely Dingoo A320 I didn’t hear the train stopping, or noticed anything of Hoofddorp so instead I had to go out of the train at Nieuw-Vennep and go back to Hoofddorp. Thing is, I was raised in Nieuw-Vennep so I took this picture where I noticed I was in complete shadow while the rest looked really sunny. Nice.
Then, I met up with Chantal and we went to Den Bosch station. There we waited for the next train and I took these two pictures:
And outside the station was this waterfall:
After that we went to Tilburg, had dinner at a Chinese restaurant and bought the bags from some die-hard recumbent-bike fans. They where really nice so we sticked there till quite late.
During our walk back to the station we met some skaterguys who liked to perform in front (and above) my camera:

After that we had to wait at Tilburg train station for about 40 minutes but it gave me plenty of time to tease Chantal and make this people (I’m such a multitasker):

Hey boys and girls!
Thursday there was Queensday in the Netherlands. It’s supposed to be a day of parties, open market (everyone can sell stuff on the streets, some sort of national garage-sale) and the Queen makes visits to villages… well this year it was difference since some total lunatic tried to attack the Queen, failed but DID kill and injure a lot of people in that brutal act.
The party atmosphere all suddenly became bitter…

The day after, 2 friends and me had the idea to do a random travel. Victor, Erfan and me took a train to the border of the Netherlands and Germany. And the result was that we actually made it to Germany. We had some trouble finding the proper hotel so at an early hour we took the first train to Duisburg from Emmerich am Rhein. We had a great trip and thus we present you all:

Okay, we went by train to Arnhem, then to Doetinchem and from there we took the bus to ‘s Heerenbergen (pronounced as zerenbergen).
But we didn’t know what the end-stop was so aparently we went back to Zeddam. The next bus was due in one hour so we decided to WALK to Emmerich. This picture was taken there. Look, we DO have hills!
Sun was getting lower, looked lovely.

And then we actually went over the boarder and arrived in Germany!

But yes it was getting later and later.
Then we arrived in Emmerich am Rhein, and since this is in the “Ruhr area” there aparently is lot’s of industry. Yes there is.
We went to the centre of Emmerich to check out the city centre and look for a hotel.
After lot’s of hassle with hotels we went to a german pub that actually appeared to be a Polish pub and we LOVED it there!
So this was the whole travelcrew. Me, Erfan and Victor.
At 4 in the morning we where wating at the Emmerich am Rhein Bahnhoff. This was our lovely view. Well Vic and Erfan where waiting inside the station, I took a walk.

And here. This train was at quite a distance but I walked there and walked on the track to make this picture. The day after I took another picture in broad daylight with my new Canon EOS 3000 analog camara.
After a VERY turbulant journey to Duisburg, we actually arrived. Here we where standing on a bridge looking at the morning light.
In the far distance we saw this massive building. Just thinking of buying it to do photoshoots and host huge parties just makes me shiver!

We climbed over a fence and went to the large building. Especially from up close it became obvious: it needed some renovation lol.

When we left I saw this pole at a gate. And yes I forgot to add the borders haha.
The large building had some old compound close so I took a picture from within. Quite some over exposure there haha.
The building itself was quite dark. I think it was built just before World War II.
Then we left. After this shot I saw my battery was extremely low so I had to save for film (since I was filming with my 5DMKII all the time)
In the afternoon we went home, so we took the train:
And arrived home safely around 18:00.
It was a hell of a trip but I loved it. Tired as I was, I went to bed around 22:00 and woke up the next day around 6:00 am haha.
Can’t wait for my next trip. This was it for now hope you all enjoyed this update which took me 2 hours to create haha!

People who have been following my blog have probably seen this scenery before. However, today I took the picture quite differently. I only had my 15mm fisheye (how unpracticle, but how much fun!) with me so this is the result.
It’s quite a funky effect with the fisheye properly used and buildings that have strange shapes and corners. Love it!
The road to the sky, a futuristic road-scene… well okay it’s just a big shiney building with lot’s of plastic and glass… but it looks nice this way hehe.
I’m not sponsored or whatso-ever… but yikes this stuff is delicious! Gave me enough energy to walk all day!

Last but certainly not least. My 2 mates who joined me today in Almere Stad. We walked through the city’s streets all day… while I captured a lot of stuff they patiently watched how I used the camera. We talked, we laughed, we discussed and we ate dinner. We had drinks, we talked to other people and chilled out at the waterside.

No I wasn’t high, or drunk (as far as I can remember) or on acid. But in the train. And that is a trip as well, just a bit different than the others mentioned… hehe.

This is how it all begun at Almere Buiten, my train arrived.
And there we are at central station. The people thought I was making a picture of the sky… well… fisheye rocks!
A BIT over exposed but well… I still like it. I wanted to adjust the exposure but then I heard the whistle… and since I had too much gear to jump on the rear of the train I just took it for granted and normally entered the train…
Then finally this was in Alkmaar. I loved the atmosphere and the old Dutch buildings. This is a picture of a small cafe/restaurant. Then I saw this old car (I believe Volvo…) passing by and it just completed the whole scene.
OH NOES Steven doing cliche’s? Well yes it’s as cliche as it can get but I like this one since it’s all red/yellow/orange with blue bars. Also the fisheye makes the lines go funkeyyy!
This is in Alkmaar as well, as you guys might know I like shots like this. Symmetry and well.. emptyness. I dunno just catches me I guess. And well yeah forget the I guess part, I know exactly why it catches me.
